CRETE - RETHYMNO

Crete, the huge, beautiful island and only full four days. With five weeks of holidays per year you can´t  make miracles, but here we are and going to use and enjoy every minute of this picturesque place.

After visiting Knossos and Agios Nikolaos there were two options for our next excursion  - Rethymno or Chania. But because of long drive from Heraklion and not having enough  time, the decision was clear, lets see Rethymno. (Chania is still on my list :-) )

We parked our car cca 1 km away and had a nice walk towards the town. It was November, about 19 degrees that day and you could still see people swimming.

I am a palm tree lover and this place was full of them. In order to spend some time and having this lovely view, we decided to take a short break, sit down and drink a cold coffee.

When you see these photos so far, you would not believe it was taken before Christmas. In the Czech Republic I was already wearing winter coat but here,  I was walking in my skirt, short sleeve T-shirt and a thin cardigan, which I took off several times.

The whole place is full of little cute streets and we were discovering them while  looking for the Rimondi Fountain.

The Rimondi Fountain is located at the North End of Petychaki square, in the centre of the old town of Rethymno.  The current fountain stands on the site of an older fountain believed to have existed since at least 1588.  The Venetian governor J. Rimondi started the reconstruction of the current fountain in 1626.

The climate here allows flowers to stay on trees  even in Winter months.

As usual wandering around the whole day makes you hungry, so it is time to chose some
cute taverna and try the local cuisine and wine.

Bye bye Rethymno, we have to return to Heraklion where our hotel is, and enjoy the evening with more wine and cretan raki.
